No Sew Quilted Christmas Tree Skirt

Are you looking for the perfect shabby chic Christmas tree skirt but don't want to pay the over rated prices? This is the perfect tutorial for you then! This required NO sewing skills, only a few materials, and patience.

When I began thinking about this project I had a "cheap" project in mind. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on fancy fabrics especially since my DIY Christmas Tree Skirt was only going to be seen for a few weeks out of the year. I decided to skip the fabric store and head straight over to the Goodwill. It didn't take me very long to find what I was looking for. I purchased a set of red canvas curtains for $2.99, a large king sized blanket for $3.99, and a cream colored flat sheet for only $1.99. I'd say I'm off to a pretty good start with keeping my prices in check!

Now, because I have purchased random fabrics from Goodwill I don't have exact yardage of fabrics to share with you for this project. But I hope by me sharing the sizes of the materials used you will have a general idea.

Other Materials Needed:

Hot Glue Gun (High Temp will work best)
Glue sticks ( I went through about 6 large hot glue sticks.)
Scissors or a rotary cutter
straight pins
An old Christmas tree Skirt for tracing purposes (not necessary as you could cut your own circle)

Process:

Before you start reading the process I want to note that I have posted a video tutorial below for those of you who are more visual like myself. There are instructions there as well.

Step 1:
Take your base (here I'm using the king sized blanket from Goodwill) and lay it out on a large flat surface. Place your tree skirt (for tracing purposes only) on top and trace around the skirt making a circle onto your base fabric
Step 2:
Cut out your circle from your base fabric.
Step 3:
Take your newly cut circle and fold it in half once forming a half circle. The fold it in half once more. Now cut a semi circle out from the corner that you have just created. (see video tutorial for hands on directions. This circle you have just cut out will be what goes around the bottom of your tree.
Step 4:
Cut a straight line from the outside of your base to the new center circle you have just created. This will allow you to open the tree skirt so you can place it around your tree base.
Step 5:
Take the fabric you will use for your ruffles and cut them in 4 inch wide strips. They can be any length you like. However, I found that longer lengths helps the process move along faster. 54 inch lengths worked well for me.
Step 6:
Start at the bottom of your base fabric and hot flue your first strip over the edge so to cover the raw edge of the split.
Step 7:
Pull the strip to the front and hot glue the very edge down.
Step 8:
Using your straight pins create pleats in your strips. Once you finish pleating the entire strip you can start to glue it down.
Step 9:
Add about a 6 inch strip of glue where you want your strip of fabric to lay then place your strip of fabric down into the glue. Allow the glue to cool before removing your pins. When you remove the pins add a drop of glue (tiny drop) to the top corners of your pleats that will be hidden with the next row and glue them down. This helps the ruffles to lay nicer.
Step 10: 
Repeat this process for every strip of fabric and every new row you create until you have reached the center circle. With every new row let about 1-2 inches of fabric hang over your previous row.
Step 11:
Once you have added all of your rows of ruffles fabric you can add fabric or ribbon to the seam to allow you to tie your new skirt onto your tree.

Do you wanna build a snowman? Well come along with me on this super short and very easy Christmas ornament craft tutorial. This is an easy hot glue snowman ornament tutorial. This handcrafted Christmas ornament is a unique Christmas ornament that is very easy to make. It takes less than 5 minutes and looks fabulous on your tree. 

Supplies needed:

Hi Temp hot glue gun
hot glue sticks
tinfoil
glass beads
pipe cleaner or something else to make the nose. (I used a button that I broke into small pieces.)
string

Instructions: (I will have a video guided tutorial below for all of you visual learners)

Step 1:
Start with a small piece of tinfoil on your work space.
Step 2:
Cut a piece of string and tie a knot in one end forming a loop.
Step 3:
Lay the string on the tinfoil.
Step 4:
Start squeezing hot glue onto the end of your string that has a knot on it. Continue squeezing out hot glue in a circular like fashion.
Step 5:
While the glue is still hot add  a glass bead for each eye and 5-6 glass beads for the mouth. Also add in your snowman's nose.
Step 6:
Place in the freezer until completely cooled.
Step 7:
Peel your new snowman ornament off the tinfoil and hang on your tree!

Kids Christmas Tree Ornament | Craft Tutorial

If you are looking for that perfect Christmas craft to do with your kids this holiday season then look no further! This is the perfect kids craft for Christmas time. You don't need very many supplies and most kids preschool age and up can help complete this project.

We will be making a Christmas Tree picture frame ornament that can be hung on your tree for many years to come. The personalized ornaments make nice custom ornaments that you and your kids can enjoy year after year. You can make these as a child or baby's first Christmas ornament. Or if you are a pet lover who loves to display their pets on their tree, then you can use your pets favorite picture as well. Regardless if you have a large Christmas tree or a small Christmas tree, the wooden photo ornaments are sure to make Christmas fun! If your kids are anything like mine they really enjoy doing kids art and this is the perfect crafts for children. 

Supplies needed:

Popsicle sticks
school glue (hot glue is OK just make sure an adult helps)
buttons/embellishments 
ribbon
scrapbook paper or card stock for the back
a picture
paint and or markers (you could also use crayons)
scissors 

Instructions: (There is a video tutorial below for those of you who are more "visual" like myself.)

Step 1:
For each ornament you will need 4 Popsicle sticks. You will need to paint or color with a marker 3 of the sticks green. The fourth stick you will paint or color with a marker brown. 
Step 2:
Once your paint has dried (skip the drying process if you are using markers) you need to take the green sticks and form a triangle and glue each corner together. You can use school glue, wood glue or a hot glue gun like I did. If you use a hot glue gun make sure an adult is doing that part. If you are using a glue that needs to dry then allow it to fully dry before moving on. 
Step 3:
Use your newly created triangle to trace around the picture you want to use. Cut out the triangle and glue to picture to the back so you can see the picture from the front.
Step 4: 
Take a piece of ribbon and form a loop. Glue the ribbon to the tip of the tree about 1.5 inches down. This is what you will hang your ornament with.
Step 5:
Trace another triangle from the triangle you have created on some festive scrapbook paper. And glue that down to the back side of the picture. You will be covering up the part of the ribbon you glued down here in this step.
Step 6:
Take the brown Popsicle stick and glue it to the center of the back of your picture to create the stump of your tree.
Step 7:
Decorate your tree with buttons or any other embellishment you would like to use.

Easy Scrap Fabric Christmas Balls

As an avid crafter I find myself having a very hard time parting with much of anything. The thought is always in the back of my mind, "What could I use that for in the future?" I save things from old broken jewelry, clothes that don't fit or are no longer fit to be worn in public, screws, light bulbs, you name it, I keep it! Some may say I have a hoarders tendency. I say waste not want not! So as you can imagine, I want to save even that very small 1 inch by 3 inch piece of scrap fabric that has been left behind from an old DIY project. The question is, what do you do with all those pieces of scraps that are otherwise useless? You make something of course!

I came up with the perfect way to no longer let those pieces of scraps go to waste. Save them and make Christmas ornaments with them. You can do this with beautiful Christmas fabric, old children's clothing, old sheets, etc. This is by far the easiest craft you will ever do and the only thing you should have to spend money on is your Christmas ornament if you don't already have them lying around. Most crafters should have all these materials lying around.

Supplies Needed:

*Christmas ball (glass or acrylic)
*Scrap fabric pieces
*Modge Podge
*Paint brush or foam brush
*Cup (or something similar for allowing your ball to dry)
*glitter, and or other notions to further decorate your ball. (not necessary)

Korker Ribbon Christmas Ornament Ball

I love to go shopping for Christmas ornaments after Christmas is over. I found two cute little Christmas ornaments hanging on in the clearance section at Lowes last January. They looked homemade and that alone is what caught my eye. So I snatched them up with the intent to make them.  Of course as luck would have it, I lost them. That's nothing new for me, I lose everything not nailed down to the floor! Thankfully though, I snapped a pic to share with all of my wonderful followers over on Instagram. So BAM! I'm back in business.




This picture was all I needed to pull off my impersonation of Lowes ribbon Christmas ornament. I will tackle the knit one next, but first things first.


This is very easy and doesn't require much skill at all. If you can wrap ribbon around and stick, use scissors, and a hot glue gun then your good to go!







The supplies you need:

3/8 inch ribbon (7 strains of korker ribbon...I'll show you how to turn your ribbon to korker shortly)
hot glue gun
hot glue sticks
scissors
1/4 inch by 12 inch wooden dowel
2 clothespins

No Sew Quilted Christmas Tree Pattern and Tutorial

     I know, it's a little early to be starting new Christmas projects. Heck they just put the Halloween stuff out in the stores, but I can't help myself. I have searched high and low for a free pattern and tutorial for this tree for quite sometime now with no such luck. I finally decided that I could do this all on my own with no instructions. Three trees later I finally figured out the best way to make these cute little doodads. Since I had so much trouble finding a free pattern I thought it would be a lovely gesture to share with you my pattern for free! Supplies Needed:

127 squares of fabric (2.5 inches X 2.5 inches)

3 squares of fabric (2.5 inches X 7 inches)

scissors or a rotary cutter and cutting board

270 straight pins (flat heads)

1 Styrofoam cone (12 inch X 5 inch)

Patten Goes As Follows:

Row 1 (Bottom) – Row 4 ---- 12 squares of fabric

Rows 5-7 ---- 10 squares of fabric

Rows 8-10 ---- 8 squares of fabric

Rows 11-12 ---- 6 squares of fabric

Rows 12-15 ---- 4 squares of fabric
